Reflecting Christmas is About So Much More than Christmas!

Matthew J. Elliott's Reflecting Christmas has done something I haven't seen done before. Without bias or pandering to any specific group or religion, he brings our focus back to the true meaning of Christmas by analyzing every single aspect associated with Christmas and revealing the original spiritual intent. Through powerful use of metaphor and relatable examples he takes the familiar things we all consider to be a part of Christmas and the Christmas Season and brings out their spiritual truth.
Though a brief read, I can honestly say this book does what it sets out to do. Christmas has become all about commericialism, to a point where it has nearly lost the true and powerful meaning of remembering the night our wonderful Savior was born into this dark world for one reason: to die for the sins of mankind. Matthew does an excellent job bringing a newness to a time of year that needs it desperately. And even more impressive, even though it's about reflecting the spirit of Christmas, his aim is for us to bring the spirit of Christmas into everyday life. But, what I feel he really means when he says he wants us to bring Christmas into everyday life is to bring the spirit of renewal and everlasting hope into even the darkest of times.
In the introduction he says that the birth of his daughter was the inspiration for writing 'Reflecting Christmas'. What a fitting inspiration, because the feeling of newness permeates every single page of this wonderful little book!
