On reading Between Here and Monkey Mountain: Poems

Reading Between Here and Monkey Mountain:Poems reminded me of the lead blanket you wear when x-rays are being taken of your mouth at the dentist. All of a sudden you are being pressed down and even your heart feels like it is contracting. By the time you make it to Part III the weight has grown overwhelming and you need to pause a little after each poem to make sure you can still breathe.

Few books can put me into a emotional funk that can affect me for days - while it's only been an hour since I finished it - this might be one of those. I hope to read more by this poet.

Finally a book that has everything!

I recently bought this and I love it. I have many books on witchcraft and none even come close to this. This has a history, and many introductions into witchcraft and the things that are talked about in the book. It talks about stones and crystals and herbs and flowers and anything you would use for a spell! It has detailed descriptions on how and when to cast spells and omg I cant even explain how great this book is. I haven't been doing any spells lately and now I have so many new ones to try. It has spells for everything a white witch would need. Some you may have already done before but trust me this book is full of new things! Lots of yummy recipes also. I am so ready to try the relationship rescue pie, its a yummy apple pie that brings more love to relationships and its so clever and simple. So cute I can't stop talking about it. You HAVE to get this book. Amazing for beginning witches and also experienced ones. You will all love it trust me!!!

Insightful Book on the Push Pack

Everyday Carry: 5.11 Tactical PUSH Pack by Max Cooper exceeded my expectations
and is a great book. I have been looking to purchase the 5.11 Push Pack but
wasn’t sure if it was what I really wanted as there are a host of similar type
products on the market. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos some of which were
helpful but not complete enough for what I was looking for to make a purchasing
decision. I read a bunch of reviews on the Push Pack but they were too short and
lacked detail. After reading this book I purchased the Push Pack and I love it
for my EDC. This pack is with me everyday. What I really like about this book is
that Cooper provides a bunch of informational nuggets that I did not previously
think about such as modifying the zipper pull for the concealed weapon
compartment which I have done and it works great. This piece of information
alone was worth buying the book. He provides excellent advice regarding training
and how to draw the weapon from multiple positions. Additionally, Cooper really
stresses that training is a critical component especially relating to drawing
your weapon from the concealment compartment. He also discusses that you should
never just rely on your firearm as you may not have time to access your weapon.
In such cases you had better have other skills to defend yourself.

Also covered are many of the items that Cooper carries in his Push Pack along
with his thoughts. Stressed throughout the book is that your EDC needs to meet
your needs and should be created based on your needs and not anyone else’s. Each
compartment of the Push Pack is reviewed along with the items carried in each
compartment. It is stressed that the contents are dynamic and will change over
time. He also states that his set up is modified depending on where he is going
and what he is doing.

Everyday Carry: 5.11 Tactical PUSH Pack by Max Cooper provided me the
information that I needed to pull the trigger and purchase the Push Pack. I feel
like I made a great decision and I am very happy with this book and the Push
Pack. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone considering buying the
Push Pack.

A Very Useful Guide to Everyday Carry Bags

I reviewed Creek Stewart's Build the Perfect Bug Out Bag the other day. This is a similar book but one dedicated to a precise bag, the 5.11 Tactical Push Pack, which sells for between $50 and 60 depending on where you buy it and sales. The 5.11 products (those I've seen and used) are very good quality,and I can understand why he would pick a top-of-the-line product.

As it happens, I did not buy a 5.11 brand push pack but a Yukon brand. It might be slightly lower quality (I'm not certain it is, taken as a whole), but it has some of the features Max Cooper says he wishes the 5.11 brand had, including a rain cover with draw string in the main pocket and a grab handle on top. Cooper uses one of the side pockets for his water bottle, and the Yukon has a special purpose pouch for a water bottle in that place, and it just made more sense to me all around.

The rest of the bag appears to be the same, and in working on loading an EDC (Every Day Carry) bag using Cooper's book, it seems close enough so as to make no difference. So even if you have another brand bag, don't worry too much about it. You can improvise, adapt, and overcome, which is, after all, the purpose of preparing an EDC.

The book itself is very well-thought out. I will provide the table of contents to illustrate my point. For each pocket, Cooper explains what he puts into it and why. It is all very well thought out and rational. He also explains why he might prefer one brand or another.

One thing he stresses throughout the book is redundancy. You have a limited about of space, and it is critical to determine what sorts of items YOU will need based on your particular context. As Cooper points out, there are too many variables for him to tell you exactly what to carry. Your needs will be different in an urban area than in the country, and in a cold climate compared to a tropical. But Cooper provides a great framework here for deciding on how to configure your EDC.

I mostly follow Cooper's scheme with my own bag. Certain things fit in certain areas better than others. Not all the pockets on these bags are equal. And your power bank or portable charger might be too big, for example, to put in the top pocket (mine almost was). So there is a lot to consider based on what gear you have and what gear you might be willing to buy.

At least as important is what you have is how you load it. You need things to be where you can get to them in a hurry and some things are more critical than others. Cooper explains all this in easily understood terms. Modify as suits your own needs and purposes.

In all, I highly recommend this book, even if only as something to provoke thought. You might not be sure you need an EDC. Perhaps reading this book (which is reasonably priced) will help you decide. Either way you decide, you will have done your due diligence. For those who carry concealed weapons, there is an entire chapter devoted to the concealed carry pocket.

Great usage ideas for this type of bag!

I've been carrying a backpack for years. As a college student in the 2000's it was essential. I've been thinking lately that I needed to change my bag because I don't carry all of the stuff that I used to and my backpack is mostly empty.

I was considering some sort of sling bag and while looking at the options on Amazon, I came across this book. It covered the types of things that we carry everyday and how the 5.11 PUSH Pack can be used to carry those items. I found the reviews of some of the items that the author carries daily to be valuable along with his review of the PUSH Pack.

Ultimately, I decided to purchase a Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack. The Versipack is available in colors that look less tactical than black and khaki (I got blue). The Versipack also has features that the author considered missing on the PUSH Pack. I'm happy with my purchase!

Not to be missed.

This book by Kathy Reichs ranks among her best. Somehow I'd missed reading this book in the series and now I'm very glad to catch up. Normally, when I find a book which is brilliantly written as this, I can't put it down. In FATAL VOYAGE the opposite was true. To prolong my reading of the story, I had read short passages only of Temperance Brennan's journey in her pursuit of truth and justice - so great was the excitement and emotion. The story revolves around an air crash which involves Temp in a convoluted case involving the identifying of human remains and the consequences of her investigations. The mix of real-life observations, excitement, empathy and accuracy in Kathy's writings make her a giant among storytellers and in particular, forensic scientists. A great read.

I started reading the book series after getting hooked on Bones the TV show. Forensic anthropology interest me. I like mysteries and these books delivers on the suspense and and thrilling aspects of hunting down causes of a persons death. Tempe Brennan is a lovable character and the books really draw you into her life and thoughts.

ANOTHER GREAT TEMPERANCE BRENNAN STORY

This was another well-written exciting book in the series. Temperance Brennan is on the scene of a plane crash in North Carolina when she discovers that the bones of one of the victims are not those of a recent crash victim. Her discovery gets her thrown off the case so she starts to dig deeper.

Excellent up to date summary of hand surgery

I am an Orthopedic Surgeon who does a significant amount of hand surgery and was looking for an up to date, affordable review of hand surgery. This book fits that need perfectly. It is concise, yet complete. It is the ideal hand surgery book for medical students, residents and for an orthopedic surgeon in the process of re-certifying for the boards. At the price it is a must buy for anyone, including hand therapists, taking care of patient with hand conditions. I have read many books which I have bought from Amazon and never wrote a review, but I felt this little gem needs to be recognized.

Excellent summary of all necessary info for hand surgeons taking the CAQ, recertifying, and for fellows, residents, interns and med students. Also excellent pocket summary for ER docs, paediatric residents and paeds ER, neurologists, hand therapists, physiatrists and orthopedic and plastic surgeons. Fits in pocket neatly, more useful in the clinic and the ER than Greens, Trumble or Weiss/Berger.

In something of a snapshot in time, he affords a valuable look at young musicians grappling with their art, their careers, and their viability as a force for something in which they believe. It's hard not to hope the attention they're getting doesn't doom their struggle to remain true to their roots, but in another year's time, they may be featured by People or Teen Beat, and then the alternative party is over. Passable summation of the band's career up till 1994

With a comprehensive discography of this key band's output up to 1994, and an interview-heavy chronology of the group's life, Confusion is Next is an okay aid to placing Sonic Youth in rock history (and explaining their obsession with Philip K. Dick). But even band member Thurston Moore, in his preface, laments the lack of real human insight here, and too often Foege's repetitive, awkward prose makes this read like someone's overlong journalism-school thesis.

Seeing as this is the only readily available book on Sonic Youth, which is a great shame as so much could & should be written about them, it's hard to say now necessary it is. It was written about the same time as Experimental, Jet Set, Trash & No Star was recorded [although it might have been updated since]. It gives you a lot of good information & insights but like others have pointed out, there is something missing. I'd still say it's well worth any SY fan or music fan in general giving it a read, it's not too heavy going, but has substance. Yes, Thurston said he wasn't sure about whether he liked Foege's writing style & also the discography was apparently stolen from someone else, but it is quite indepth. Also there are some really good photos & flyers etc @ the front of the book, from pre-SY bands like the Coachmen & into Confusion is Sex era & then semi-stardom. Actually a year or so ago Lee put out a book of diaries from the 80s that would complement or surpass CIN, that was on Soft Skull press I think, like his Road Movies poetry book. Maybe it is because Sonic Youth is 4 distinct personalities that it was hard to make it sufficiently personal whereas a solo artist might be easier to write about. I was generally pleased enough when I read it about a year or so into enetering their world.

Great Background for Newer Fans

Foege does a great job of describing Sonic Youth from its beginnings in the early 70s until 1995. Being I was barely able to walk when Sonic Youth first formed, and not even a fan until 1995, I was eager to learn about the beginnings of the group. Seeing where the band, especially where Thurston comes from is a great way to understand their music. It also does a great job in describing the influence Sonic Youth had on the music world.
Yes, 200 some pages hardly does justice to Sonic Youth. But being that there is no other biography on the band, I'd recommend that any fan picks up a copy of this book... I think I've read my copy three times.
