About the Author

Ralph H. Petrucci

Ralph Petrucci received his B.S. in Chemistry from Union College, Schenectady, NY, and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin—Madison. Following ten years of teaching, research, consulting, and directing the NSF Institutes for Secondary School Science Teachers at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, Dr. Petrucci joined the planning staff of the new California State University campus at San Bernardino in 1964. There, in addition to his faculty appointment, he served as Chairman of the Natural Sciences Division and Dean of Academic Planning before retiring from teaching.

F. Geoffrey Herring

Geoff Herring received his B.Sc. and his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry, both from the University of London. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Chemistry of the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. Dr. Herring has research interests in the area of biophysical chemistry and has published over 100 papers in the area of physical chemistry and chemical physics. Recently, Dr. Herring has undertaken studies in the use of information technology and interactive engagement methods in teaching general chemistry with a view to improving student comprehension and learning. Dr. Herring has taught chemistry from undergraduate to graduate levels for 30 years and has twice been the recipient of the Killam Prize for Excellence in Teaching.

Jeffry D. Madura

Jeffry D. Madura received his B.A. from Thiel College and his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Purdue University. He is currently Professor and Chair in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Madura’s research interests are in the area of computational chemistry and biophysical chemistry, and he has published over 70 papers in the area of physical chemistry and chemical physics. Recently, Dr. Madura has undertaken studies in the use of technology and interactive personal response systems in teaching general and physical chemistry with the goal of improving student comprehension and learning. Dr. Madura has taught chemistry from undergraduate to graduate levels for 15 years and has been the recipient of a Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award.

Carey Bissonnette

Carey Bissonnette received his B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Waterloo, Ontario and his Ph.D. in Theoretical Chemistry from the University of Camridge. He is currently Continuing Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Waterloo. He has won awards for excellence in teaching, including the University of Waterloo’s Distinguished Teacher Award in 2005. Dr. Bissonnette has made extensive use of technology in both the classroom and the laboratory in order to create an interactive environment for his students to learn and explore. For the past several years, he has been actively engaged in undergraduate curriculum development, high school liaison activities, and the coordination of the University’s high school chemistry contests that are written each year by thousands of students around the world.

About the Author

Michael L. Power is a senior research associate at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and an animal scientist at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park. Jay Schulkin is the senior director of the research department at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a faculty member at Georgetown University’s Department of Neuroscience and the University of Washington’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Power and Schulkin are the coauthors of The Evolution of Obesity and The Evolution of the Human Placenta.

Interesting look at the biology and evolution of milk

I enjoyed this book. I am a little surprised that a book just on milk could be that interesting. The book is really about the biology of milk, it’s evolution and constituents. There is little information on production or any commercial aspects. The information is discussed in a fairly conversational way, but a prior knowledge of biology would be very helpful in getting through the material. At times there is too much information, especially when authors Michael L. Power and Jay Schulkin compare the constituents of the milk of various species. Nonetheless I recommend this book for anyone interested in biology.

Excellent read ! Required reading for all Americans

Brigitte is an excellent author who writes from personal experience. Her native Lebanon was once a prosperous liberal open society until it was destroyed by radical Islam. This book was written in 2006 and it is truly remarkable to see what has transpired in 10 years thanks to ineffectiveness on the part of both the US and European governments and "political correctness ". Not only do we have ISIS but we also have our president & elected officials continuing to deny/ignore the FACTS that Islam is not a peaceful religion & that it has an agenda to destroy everything we hold dear in our liberal society. As a Christian convert with Jewish blood I am very concerned over the events taking place right now in Europe where Christians & Jews are being assaulted in France as they exit their worship services. This is not being reported much due to political correctness. France will surely be the next Lebanon. If you value your life & the lives of your loved ones, do yourself a huge favor & ignore the mainstream media opinions & analysis when the next terror attack takes place. Listen to an expert who has lived through it all; that expert is Brigitte !

Wake up & smell the coffee.

A very good read, even though it is aimed mainly at an American audience. As they say in the USA, perhaps we, too, should "wake up and smell the coffee". I would also recommend the sequel "They Must Be Stopped". It should also be pointed out, however, that both of these books are mainly speaking of the threat posed by RADICAL Islam, not every muslim.

None of the six men are portrayed as wholly saint or demon but rather as realistically observed—and flawed—figures whose ideas and actions reverberated across continents and eras. Mostly black-and-white photos provide interesting contexts for the subject, although they are somewhat muzzy in their reproduction here. There are a variety of distracting typographical errors, and, although there is a good bibliography, quotations within the text lack citations. This is an excellent introduction to the complexity of the Vietnam War and U.S. involvement, but young researchers will need to seek other materials when assignments require documentation. Broad look at key players in the Vietnam War

When I was in school, the Vietnam War had been over for several years, yet no one talked about it. It was like a passing mention in a textbook. This book serves to teach the next generation more about what shaped those that came before them and to what so much media refers in our current conflicts.

The book focuses on six men who were instrumental in the conflict, each with approximately the same number of pages of information given to each one. Each one of them had a different role in the war and different reasons for their participation. Each one had different opinions of the conflict. By presenting all six of them, this book allows for a broader and more balanced look at the controversial war.

Each man's personal history, as it relates to the conflict, is given in his biographical sketch. Political reasoning and maneuvering, and military tactics are both discussed. I felt like I learned a lot from reading this book, that I had missed out on when taking history classes at a younger age.

The only thing that caught my eye was impeachment being defined as "the process by which Congress removes the president from office" when discussing Henry Kissinger and Richard Nixon. Impeachment is actually the process of bringing formal charges against someone in public office, such as the President, but not necessarily removing them from office. Removal from office can result from impeachment, though. A recent example is President Clinton, who was impeached, charged and put on trial for misconduct, but was not removed from office. This stuck out to me, because I remember having this discussion in our limited coverage of the Vietnam War in high school. I also double-checked the definition at Dictionary.com and other sources.

The end of the book also includes a brief timeline outlining the major events of the conflict, a glossary of terms used throughout, and a bibliography for future reference.

I think this book would be appropriate for middle grades through adult, as one reference for studies of the Vietnam War.

Excellent Prayer Book

This is an excellent comprehensive prayer book, but compact in size. There are 1,227 pages in this book. It is a nice quality book with leather cover. It contains almost any devotion you are looking for. It was originally published in 1913 and reprinted in 2010. This book is a true gem and worth every penny. Some of the devotions it contains are: Morning prayers throughout the day, Evening Prayer, Mass Devotion (also in Latin), various litanies, Devotion to the Blessed Mother, Meditations before the Blessed Sacrament, prayers and reflections of many saints, Meditations on the Passion, Devotions to the Sacred Heart and Five Wounds and many, many more. The font is rather small, but clear and readable, nice quality paper with gold gilded edges. The content of the book makes up for the smaller print. This is a treasure. A must have for your library.

Comprehensive Catholic Prayerbook

Quite possibly the most comprehensive (pre-Vatican II) Prayerbook of the Roman Catholic rite. This is a veritable treasure-trove of prayers, containing both familiar standbys, and many that one would be hard-pressed to find elsewhere.
At 1227 pages, it is remarkably compact and easy to carry.
As other reviewers have pointed out, the font is rather small. The serif and "Olde English" style fonts range from (approx.) 3pt to 8pt. Please see the two photos I have provided for a sampling.
Nonetheless, although I often wear drugstore reading glasses (+1.75), I am able to read this prayerbook in its entirety without the glasses, except under low light conditions.

As this Prayerbook's title implies, it is exceptional for use during Eucharistic Adoration.
There are also so many other occasions and situations where the prayers in this book excel.
Since receiving my copy I've constantly had it within reach to read and study when I have a few spare moments.
There is so much rich material here, "exhaustive" is the best way to describe it.

Fr. Lasance's "The Blessed Sacrament Prayerbook" will undoubtedly become a lifelong companion.

The only reason I rated this 4-stars is due to the less than stellar print quality.
The reprint was very clearly done by photo-reproduction/duplication of the original vs. being completely reset.
While I dearly love Loreto Press and the great Catholic classics they bring us, I would really like to see this book in the hands of the reprint masters, Baronius Press.

This has become one of my favourite Prayerbooks and is one that I highly recommend to anyone.

It is the perfect Prayerbook for one's daily edification, and a sturdy classic that will make a beautiful, cherished keepsake for future generations.

Disappointed

I was so looking forward to getting this prayer book. I had wanted it for over a year, but had just purchased Blessed Be God, so I chose to wait awhile. There are very few reviews for this book but the two I managed to find were favorable. They left out one important detail- the lettering is sooooo tiny. I do not have vision problems, but I think I'd develop eye strain if I were to use this prayer book for any length of time. The font size in Blessed Be God is just right for me, as well as the font-size in the Liturgy of the Hours. I am so disappointed as this prayer book has so many prayers that I haven't found anywhere, but what's the use of having them if I can barely read them? I'm so disappointed. I'll be returning this one.

More goodness from The Player's Club!

I have truly enjoyed all the books in the Marriage Diaries series! The Player's Club is the fantastic spin off and it just gets better with each story. This is Jase and Kendall's story. It's steamy, sexy and complex. Their story was a great addition to the series. All the old players make a brief appearance in this story and it's always wonderful to catch up with Dean and Jillian!

In Seduction, we see a determined Jase trying everything he can to get Kendall's attention. He simply wants a chance to be with her but Kendall is fighting him tooth and nail - she simply refuses to try no matter how hot their attraction is. Kendall feels she has many reasons to fight her growing need for Jase - she's 35. He's 27. She's established and set in her career as a photographer and running a successful business. He just left the armed services and is finding his way. Most importantly she wanted marriage and family. He clearly was not ready to settle down. After a devastating divorce, Kendall will not settle for less than her dreams. How can she pursue anything with Jase knowing he can't give her all that she needs?

One invitation to The Player's Club and a night of decadence may just change Kendall's mind for good! And what a night it turns out to be! WOW!

This was such a great read! I did not want to put it down until it was done. Erika has done a fantastic job and given us another divine couple with off the charts chemistry. Despite their age differences and being at different places in their lives, it was fun watching them work to bridge the divide. Reading that last page was painful! I kept turning hoping for more of Jase and Kendall. So so good!

Love me some Erika!

I love Wilde's work...and this was no exception! This story was very hot and steamy...Kendall and Jase were extremely hot together and I really liked both characters. Sometimes when you have one person wanting a relationship and the other not sure, the personality of one of the characters can be annoying. Not so here. Jase was very earnest and Kendall was still getting her feet under her from her horrible ex.
I had two issues with the book which prevented it from being a 5 star for me. First...35 and 27 isn't REALLY that much of an age difference. Kendall kept going on about how Jase was still figuring himself out...and that might have been the case, but the man had been in the military and now had a full time career...it wasn't like he was 22 and just out of college. He seemed to know just what he wanted and I didn't think the age difference was enough to base their whole "disagreement" over what kind of relationship they'd have on it. The second issue was how it ended. Don't get me wrong, I love me some HEA, but it seemed to me that Jase was "forced" into the relationship. I would've liked to have seen him get over his "I'm not ready" thoughts on his own. *shrugging*
Again, that didn't make me DISlike the book, I just would've rather seen it go a different way. But the sex scenes were hot, the chemistry between the H and h was off the charts. I'll definitely be reading this again. *Gifted by the publisher through NetGalley for an honest review*

The Player's Club series has another winning hand with this one!

This latest story in the Player's Club series (of which each can be read as a standalone) uses the backdrop of the Player's Club, a local sex club where any and all fantasies can be indulged, to give the characters a chance for some no holds barred interactions. In this case it's Kendall who gets a free night's pass to the club, and uses it with the intention of finding a hot guy to give her a night to remember. The only problem? That hot guy turns out to be her friend Jase, a security expert who just so happens to have modelled for her at her boudoir photography company. She's resisted his advances before, mostly due to their age difference as she is eight years older than him and her life is on a different path than his. But after one night together at the club, their connection is intense enough to have Kendall reconsidering her feelings about getting involved. Can Jase convince her that together they could have a winning hand?

I really enjoyed this story! I like stories with strong female heroines who know their mind and that's the case here. Kendall is proud of her home grown photography business and has no qualms about the move she's made into taking more risque pictures as a boudoir photographer. Jase is doing her a favour by posing for a romance cover shoot, his attractive good looks and comfort in front of the camera making him a great choice for her pictures. She knows that Jase would like to pursue something more with her but she's been burned before. Her ex used her to put him through school, then dumped her, leaving her dreams of children and a loving family in the dust. She's 35 - she wants to be settled and raising children, with a partner who wants the same thing.

Jase on the other hand is a playboy, not nearly ready for marriage or settling down. But it doesn't stop him from wanting to pursue a relationship with Kendall, and truthfully his motivation in being a model for her is to get close to her. Just because Jase doesn't want marriage and children at this point in his life doesn't mean he isn't ready for something more intense than the dating, hookup scene. He comes across as a mature and strong man in his own right, and he is a committed and dependable employee at the security firm he works for. After the night they share together at the Player's Club, he's able to convince Kendall that they should explore their connection further. His feelings for Kendall are much stronger than even he expected them to be, and the thought of breaking up with her after their mutually agreed upon fling is over tears at something inside him.

With the intense attraction between them, it's no surprise that they share several steamy scenes together. Jase is a commanding presence in the bedroom, and Kendall is happy to let him take charge, though she also brings some toys in for extra fun. Their sex scenes are pretty scorching! But great sex isn't enough and for a while it seems as though the story can't possibly have a happy ending, with two people who are firm in their feelings about the future. For me, that's the mark of a good writer, someone who makes you care enough about the characters that you worry that they won't find a way to compromise, especially when they have very strong held and opposing beliefs about what they are looking for. I wasn't sure how it could possibly come out with a happy ending, but lucky for us it does and the ending is sweet and satisfying. 4.5 stars for this sexy, enjoyable romance!
